We're in a long term relationship with the beach.

The REEF Story

In 1984, brothers Fernando and Santiago Aguerre
founded REEF out of their love for the beach and
surfing. They wanted to make high-quality,
ultra-comfortable products that fit their lifestyle—
so they created sandals that could effortlessly
take them from the beach to the streets and
everywhere in between. Today, REEF sandals are
more than just a footwear choice. It’s a pursuit of
the REEF DREAM.

Our Impact Initiatives Since 1984

The beach has been the heart and soul of REEF. We believe the beach is where fun and freedom come to life and that there is a deep connection between our well-being and our beaches. We are dedicated to protecting our ocean, preserving our reefs, and continuing to create access to the spirit of the beach.

Our Partners in Conservation

Observe and Conserve

“Observe and Conserve” is an effort put forward by REEF and the MEGA lab to give people the opportunity to protect coral reefs from wherever they feel most comfortable. We’ve teamed up with Ambassador, Chemist and Professional Surfer Dr. Cliff Kapono to make positive changes for coral protection. We have successfully mapped 2 reefs and have over 150k views of our reef livestream.

Better Beach Alliance

In 2018, the Better Beach Alliance was founded by the Surfrider Foundation and REEF to help grow the impacts of Surfrider’s Beach Cleanup program through education and by inspiring new volunteers to take part in the program. Each year, the Better Beach Alliance seeks to bring together and empower businesses, communities and individuals to enacting meaningful change for our planet.

Urban Surf 4 Kids

The beach accepts us all equally, and we believe everyone has the right to feel the fun and freedom the beach offers. Through our partnership with Urban Surf 4 Kids, we're introducing foster and at-risk kids to the positive benefits and healing properties of the ocean. We have had 5k graduates and over 840 hours volunteered.

The Fanning
Turns 21

Who says your sandal can't multitask?
Grabbing the iconic Fanning is still one
of the easiest choices out there. Named
after Mick Fanning and built from
a long-standing partnership with REEF,
the Fanning has spent over two decades
earning its place as an icon.
